FAR/AIM - FAA Pilot Reference App Reviews

Great value!

One small payment for years of updates? Yes, please! As an Avionics technician, having the FARs literally at hand is extremely useful! Love this app!

Inspector

I am an FAA Inspector and find this to be very useful in my day to day surveillance. I no longer have to pack around bulky regulations, or worry about connectivity. I have it all on my iPad. I would recommend this product.

A+++++

Awesome app!!! Having the CFRs on my IPad is the best tool I van have!!

Rey useful

Excellent app. Good search feature. Much better than lugging the big book around.

FARS

Im in the FAA and work with these regs daily. This app is by far better than any reference we otherwise use. Love the search function.

Indispensable for pilots

The ability to bookmark and highlight text is great. As dull as the FARs are I like to read them everyday and this app is perfect for that. Buying paper copies is a pain and so is carrying them! I was thinking this wouldnt be as good as the ASA app but I think this app is designed well.

Love it!

Im a CFII and love having a great, easy to use set of aim/far that is much more up to date than the book I have used for over 30 years. Its a great value too! If you earn your living flying, this is the way to go ! Skip lunch and buy this one instead.

Good app but anyone know how to stop the auto renewal?

$9.95 is not a bad price but it is decidedly inconvenient that there I no way to stop the auto renewal.

crashing

Great app...until it started crashing 2 or 3 weeks ago. Several updates have come out since, but they dont seem to fix the crashing issue. Please fix, I need a current FARAIM for my work, and this is the easiest way to access it. Thanks

Update charges

This was a great app..... until they started charging for updates. I bought this app when it first came out, now I have to pay again for updates? No loyalty for long time customers. Do yourself a favor and get the ASA app and pay onetime.

Good app, even better customer support

The app itself is very useful for pilots and other aviation professionals. But the customer service/support of this app is even better. I had an issue once, the guys got back to me in a jiffy and fixed the problem!

Easy to use with searchable text ...

This app makes finding material on any topic easy to find. Stable app with intuitive controls. Annual update was a simple in app purchase. Beats lugging around a new book every year.

Pilot

I enjoy mostly the organization of the regs in this app. It is very easy for me to find applicable regulations quickly. I am suggesting this app for my students. 31Jan14 Kaom helped me with an issue where I wasnt getting my new account validated on my iPad. He corresponded with me by email several times until he got enough information to fix it. I am very happy that this was taken care of over a period of a few hours instead of a few days!

Changed Mind

While this cost more money than I wanted to spend, I have found the app valuable. As a member of a professional airline crew, I needed a way to have portable information and this turned out to be perfect. I have no books to lug around, and can easily settle discussions with the other pilots even while aloft. The app is worth it. JANUARY 2014 UPDATE: For $10 I expected the app to continue updates, but it will not. An iPad upgrade to ios7 is required for the newest material, and I havent desired the upgrade. THE NEW FAR 117 AIRLINE REST RULES ARE NOT EVEN AVAILABLE ON MY REVISION. I no longer find the app usable, and regret buying it.

Subscription?

If Im not mistaken, when I purchased this app in 2009, it was life time updates - now, Im required to purchase a subscription to get the latest updates??. Ive NEVER had to purchase an update for this app for 4 years - greed once again trumps good business! Oh yea - still NO part 117? This reg has been in play for months. Ill have to find a different app that stands by their promise!

Pay now?

Oh good. Im not the only one confused about a subscription. Ive had this app for two years now and never had to buy a subscription. So I guess its back to the books.

Good app and great support.

Like the two previous reviews, I was surprised when they started charging for the subscription, but $9.99 is a lot cheaper and convenient than having to buy the far/aim every year. With that said, recently I had to email support because my subscription only appeared valid in one of my three devices. Those guys emailed me back almost immediately, something I have not experience with any other iPad app. Although it took 24 hours to fix the issue, they were in touch with me until the issue was fixed. Not even Microsoft support does that. In any case, I used this app in my recent biannual review, and it was easy to keep up with the instructor. He was using the book. So overall, I highly recommend this app even for $9.99 per year.

Subscription?!?

I originally purchased this app for around $10 because it did not have a reoccurring subscription. I would not have purchased it if that was not the case. Im horribly discouraged!

Buggy

Highlighting function fails to work on some paragraphs and with italicized words. Trying to make notes causes the app to crash completely. These need to be fixed ASAP. Already had to download the AIM off the FAA website because of all the bugs crashing the app.

Excellent

As a flight school student this app has been used extensively over the past year. Updated frequently and with a clean user interface. Comes highly recommended.
